Common questions

What is WayStaq?
WayStaq is a budgeting app for your trips and your everyday money. In Travel mode you build multi-country itineraries, manage pre-trip tasks (visas, bookings, vaccinations) and log spending in any currency as you go, with your budget updating in real time. In Home mode you run your bills, spending pots and savings between trips. It replaces the messy mix of spreadsheets, notes apps and calendar reminders most people juggle.
Is WayStaq only for travel?
No. Switch to Home mode any time with the Travel / Home buttons at the top of the app to track bills and direct debits, split your monthly money into spending pots, and build up savings and an emergency fund. It's the same app and the same login, so you can flip between your next trip and everyday life. Try the Home demo.
How does budgeting work in Home mode?
Add your monthly take-home pay, then your bills, subscriptions and debt repayments, monthly or yearly. WayStaq shows what's committed each month and what's left for everything else. Split that into spending pots, log what you spend as you go, and move whatever's left into savings or your emergency fund. A short walkthrough guides you through it the first time. See how Home mode works.
What are spending pots?
A spending pot is a monthly limit for things that vary, like groceries, fuel, eating out or fun money. Each time you log a spend, that pot's bar fills up, so you can see what's left before payday. Each month starts fresh.
How do yearly bills and annual costs work?
Any bill or subscription can be monthly or yearly. A yearly one is budgeted as a twelfth every month, and the full price is logged in the month it's due, so it never catches you out. For costs without a fixed date, like an MOT, servicing or the dentist, add what you expect to spend in a year and WayStaq sets aside a twelfth each month.
Does WayStaq connect to my bank?
No. You add your bills and log your spending yourself, so WayStaq never sees your bank login or statements. Logging a spend takes a few seconds, and WayStaq asks you to confirm each regular bill on the day it goes out, so your month stays accurate without linking any accounts.
How do I get started? Is there a video tutorial?
Yes — if you're not sure where to begin, our in-depth walkthrough (around 10 minutes) takes you through what to do first when you open WayStaq and how to manage your tasks: watch the getting started video. You'll also find it embedded in the How it works section above.
How do I track travel expenses?
Add an expense by selecting your trip, choosing a category (food, transport, accommodation, etc.) and entering the amount in whatever currency you are spending in. WayStaq automatically converts it to your home currency and adds it to your budget tracker. You can view a breakdown by category or by country at any time. Read our full guide: How to Track Travel Expenses.
Can I plan multi-country trips?
Yes — multi-country trips are a core part of WayStaq. Add as many countries and cities as you like, set dates for each stop, and your tasks and expenses will automatically associate with the right destination. Whether you are doing a two-week backpacking route or a month-long round-the-world trip, WayStaq handles it. See our guide to planning multi-country trips.
Is WayStaq free to use?
There's a free plan, and every account starts with 7 days of full Premium, no credit card needed. After that you keep a free plan with expense logging, tasks, one-country trips and Home mode budgeting. Premium, at £50 a year, adds unlimited countries and trips, spending charts, trip sharing, cost splitting and your full Home mode history. Or get Premium for a single trip with a 30-day Trip Pass for £12.99. See the full pricing breakdown.
Does WayStaq replace spreadsheets?
That is exactly what it is designed to do. Spreadsheets are flexible but they do not know your trip dates, they cannot link a visa task to your Thailand stop, and they cannot automatically convert Thai baht to pounds. WayStaq does all of that in a purpose-built interface. Most users find they ditch their travel spreadsheet within the first trip.
Can I share a trip with someone?
Trip sharing is available on Premium. Share a trip with a travel companion and both of you can view the itinerary, tasks and expenses together. Perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends who want to stay in sync without endless message threads.
